Obituary of Alma Gunderson

Please share a memory of Alma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alma Gertsch was born to John and Lydia Gertsch, on her parents farm east of Bawlf. She attended the small country schools of Firtle and Chirbury. Leaving home, she worked for farm families in the area, performing household duties and child care. Later she worked at the egg grading station in Bawlf. Alma and sister Florence, later found employment as telephone operators with AGT in Bawlf. While working there she met Alvord Gunderson. They were married on August 5th, 1953 in a double wedding ceremony with Florence and Alvord's cousin, Milton Mosand. Alvord and Alma were blessed with three sons and two daughters. In 1959, they moved to Alvord's parents' farm and resided here until moving to Bawlf in 1979, into the house that Alvord built. The whole family was involved in doing the work on the farm…..milking cows, planting gardens, seeding crops, haying, and harvesting. Alma was the main combine operator. There was no cab until they finally purchased a 92 Massey in the later years. As the kids got older, Alma started working off the farm at Bethany Home in Camrose for many years. She was often on call with the Camrose AID LINE , sat on the board of the Bawlf Coop and was involved with the Bawlf ELCW. Her family recalls her being a good listener, willing to help others, hard working, and a true confidant. She lived by her strong faith in God, taking one day at a time and when she had no control over the situations, she would always say "It's in God's hands". Alma passed away peacefully in St. Mary's Hospital June 23, 2017. She is survived by her children Terry (Adele)of Camrose, Joanne (Rick) Schultz of Victoria Harbour, Ont., Wilf (Marlis) of St. Albert, Garth (Charleen) of Bawlf, and Beth (Ron) Borgel of Strome; her grandchildren Meghan (Rob), Kearns, Darcy (Kirsten), Craig (Marie), Cherisse (Cory), Hochreiter, Cody (Stacey), Jessica (Brad) Ross, Bryce and Kendall Borgel; her great-grandchildren Avery, Corbyn, Mya, Adleigh, and Alyvia; one sister Erna Storvick; and one brother-in-law Milton Mosand; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
