Sad to learn of Vern's passing. He was a very entertaining gentleman, always had many stories to share with me when he visited my office. He will be greatly missed.

Vern was a good firefighter, strong, didn't Hold back when there was work to do. I was with him when he and Hal Loree pulled what appeared to be a dead woman from her burning home. Vern went in, without a mask Ended up in hospital, along with the woman, (who was dead drunk, not dead.) Whoever met Vern always remembered him. Life at no. 3 was never dull with him around. I am sorry to see his passing. Bob McPherson

My deepest condolences to the Hauck family. I had the honour & privilege of working with Vern over the years on the Edmonton Fire Dept. Vern was respected by many of the men on the job. He was honest, had a wonderful sense of humour (Sick at times, but great) & real no nonsense attitude. He will be dearly missed!! Please mark Mon 2017 Sept 11th on your calendar as the Edmonton FireFighters Memorial Society will be having their annual Remembrance Ceremony that morning. It is a family affair & we honour all of the members we have lost in the past year. If a family member could contact me at edmgator@gmail.com I can give you more details. Please plan to attend. Again, my deepest condolence on Vern's passing. Ed Rostalski, treasurer, Edmonton FireFighters Memorial Society.

On behalf of the Edmonton FireFighters Memorial Society, please accept our condolences on Vern’s’s passing. Please know that he will be missed greatly. Although I have never had the pleasure in working with Vern, talking to several members who did he was a very well respected member of our department. We want to give your family time to grieve your loss but if you could please mark Monday Sept 11th 2017 on your calendar, as that will be the day of our Annual Remembrance Ceremony. It will be the day that we remember all those members that we have lost in the past year. It is also a very special ceremony as we have the family members of those members involved in the event itself. It gives us all a chance to say goodbye and it helps with the closure as well. If I could have a family member to contact me at 780-619-1564 or at noel.bugnet@edmonton.ca then I can get back to them and we can talk about arrangements for this or next years ceremony. In closing, please accept our deepest condolences on your loss and know that Vern will be missed. Noel Bugnet Chairman Edmonton FireFighters Memorial Society

We shared many highs and lows working together for the Edmonton Fire Department. Vern could always be depended on to put a smile on your face. Life was never boring when your Dad was around. He was always ready with a helping hand when you needed one.
