Garnet Joseph Burnstad was born January 24, 1922 to Sigurd and Beulah Burnstad in Round Hill, Alberta. He was named Garnet for he was such a gem! Garnet was baptized and later confirmed at Trondhjem Lutheran Church. Garnet took his elementary in Meldahl School and then went to Holden for his high school. After graduating from high school he joined the Armed Forces. Garnet was a man with many talents and achievements. He was a Business Administrator, Auctioneer, Insurance Broker, Camrose School Board Trustee, Town Administrator, and Realtor. Garnet was an avid hunter, fisherman, curler, golfer, field trial dog trainer, and gardener. Ella May and Garnet loved to travel and play board games with their family and friends. It was well known that Garnet loved to win. Left to cherish Garnet's memory are his loving wife Ella May; his children Rosemarie Sware of Fort Saskatchewan, Judy (Don) Wideman of Camrose, Brian Burnstad of Fort Saskatchewan, Allen Roth of Penticton, BC, Elizabeth (Clark) Slater of Esmond, North Dakota, Bonnie (Vaughn) Toews of New Norway, John (Karen) Roth of Grand Island, Nebraska, Joan (Troy) Ferner of Camrose, Virginia (Glen) Olsen of Hay Lakes; in addition to twenty-six grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; and brother Norris (Elaine) Burnstad of Camrose. Garnet was predeceased by his first wife Ann; his brothers Robert, Howard, and Ronald; his sister Irene Olson; and son-in-law Norm Sware. A Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2017 from the Salem Mennonite Church, 49232 Range Road 184 (near Tofield). Interment has taken place in the Camrose Valleyview Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to M.C.C. Mennonite Central Committee.
