Obituary of Raymond Proskow
Please share a memory of Raymond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Raymond Proskow passed away peacefully in Camrose, Alberta, on August 14, 2017, at the age of 89 years. He was born to Joseph and Mary Proskow, on a farm near Round Hill, Alberta, where his parents homesteaded. Ray was involved in many volunteer projects with branches of the Camrose Canadian Legion and Camrose Elks Club. With the Legion, he chaired the annual Poppy Fund Campaign for many years with great success. On Remembrance Day every year, he placed a poppy on the grave of each war veteran buried in the Ukrainian Catholic church cemetery. Ray held an executive position with the Elks Club (his mother thought he belonged to an animal organization), and with them, accomplished much senior care service work. Ray loved Ukrainian songs, listened to them weekly on local CFCW radio programs and, as a hobby, collected Ukrainian records. Ray joined the Camrose chapter of the Barbershop Chorus and Quartet, and sang lead. Ray was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary; his sisters, Stella, Helen, Olga and Judy; his brother Fred, and twins Peter and Paul; his niece, Darlene; and his nephews, Douglas Norman, and Wayne. Left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Tony and Morris; eight nieces; seven nephews; and numerous great-grand nieces and nephews. Ray was particularly grateful to his neighbours, Mark and Cindy West, Alec Shute, Allan Sherbaniuk, Ann Sherbaniuk, Dennis Sherbaniuk, and Johnny Boychuk, for all their help in times of need. Ray's presence among us will be sorrowfully missed. Ray's carefree spirit will remain as a testament to a lifetime of achievement and fulfillment. God bless you, Ray. We love you.
