Lawrence (Lorne) Reuben Harke was born July 1, 1917 to August and Lydia Harke, at the family farm in New Sarepta. He married Meta Heibner November 17, 1942. Together they raised 5 children, and were married 52 years. Lorne started working at Wesel's store in New Sarepta. He and Meta moved to the farm at Hay Lakes in 1950, where they resided until their retirement. Lorne had many trades: painting, gas fitting, floor coverings, plumbing and heating. Lorne's passion was music; he sang and played many instruments. Lorne was always active in the community and the church, first in the Moravian and then in the Zion Evangelical church in New Sarepta. He sang and conducted choir, started a band and played the piano. In 1997 Lorne married Elsie Kublik, and have been together 12 years. Lorne is predeceased by his parents, first wife Meta, son Dennis, brothers - Lavern, Morris, Alvin, Clem, Milton, Wesley. Lorne leaves to cherish his memory his wife Elsie, son Lyle (Sigrun), daughters LaVerne (Boris) Polonsky, Phyllis (Jacques) Levesque, and Wendy (John) Reist; grandchildren Charene, Tanya, Tara, and Robert. Great grandchildren Bre, Brittany, Nikki, and great grandson Brayden; brothers Bill and Cyril, sister Bonnie, and many more relatives. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from the New Sarepta Evangelical Church. Interment followed in the Moravian Cemetery. If friends so desire memorial contributions can be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation or the charity of one's choice.
