Obituary of Alfred Laun

Please share a memory of Alfred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bob Laun of Camrose passed away on Tuesday September 19, 2017 at the age of 81 years. Bob was born April 29, 1936 the eldest son of Alfred and Betty Laun in Westlock, Alberta. He grew up on the farm and then became a heavy duty mechanic. This career started in Westlock but soon brought him to Camrose where he later became a salesman and then a dealer principal. Bob was always honest, full of advice and followed all the rules. He always said never speed you'll get there at the same time anyway. He always had time for a cup of coffee and a visit. Bob had a love of the outdoors and spent most weekends camping and for a while being the captain of his sailboat. He was also known to waterski with the tow rope around his neck instead of in his hands. Bob retired at an early age and bought himself a Honda Gold Wing and the story goes he put on 80,000 km in four years. Bob then decided to become a Snowbird and go to Arizona every winter (he should have been a bird as he drove that route to Arizona at the speed limit but somehow always in record time)which he was lucky enough to do even this past winter. He spent his winters in Arizona golfing, socializing, riding his bike and doing machine embroidery. His machine embroidery is scattered in many countries around the world with family and friends many of whom are with us today. He was always the RV Parks best ambassador he thought everyone that came to visit should spend their winters there also and many did. Bob always said it was the best part of his life and he had many good friends on both sides of the border. His place was always the place to stop for coffee and a visit. Bob is survived by his loving wife Gloria; children Shirley (Rick) Uglem, Lyle (Laurie) Laun, Lorraine Inkster and Gloria's children Cindy (Brian) Symon, Sandra Hancock, Darrell (Sandy) Hancock; sixteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; as well as two brothers and two sisters. Bob will be forever missed and always remembered in the hearts of all that knew him. A Celebration of Life was held at the Camrose Golf Course (5106-66 St) September 30, 2017 between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. In lieu of cards and flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
