Obituary of Iris Mikasko

Iris Grace May Mikasko of Camrose passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the age of 89 years. Iris Mikasko was born on May 18, 1928 on her parent's farm near New Norway, Alberta. She was the seventh of fourteen children born to C.N. and Lily Butler. Her younger years were spent helping with daily life on the farm and going to school. In 1946, she married William "Bill" Mikasko and moved to the Mikasko homestead. She and Bill worked on the farm together and raised three children, Geraldine, Brian, and Karen. Iris kept busy with life on the farm, particularly her garden, with many fruit trees and flowers. In 1989, with Bill's health failing, they retired from the farm to Camrose. She continued to live in their house until 2008, when she moved to Rosealta Lodge. Recent ill health meant another move to Bethany Meadows. She was predeceased by her daughter Geraldine in 1977, her husband Bill in 1991, and numerous brothers and sisters. Left to cherish her memory are her son Brian (Maureen) of Stony Plain; daughter Karen (Joe) of Camrose; three sisters Janey of Camrose, Faye (George) of Vancouver, and Bunny (Al) of Wabamun; son-in-law Ron (Linda) of Ponoka; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery.
