Obituary of Dorothy Meyer

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Ellen (Innes) Meyer loving wife of 54 years to Gary J. Meyer, Mother to Kim Meyer-Lucas (Alan), Tammy-Rae Syrnyk (Allen), Sherry Loesch (Bradley), Bradley Meyer (Tammy) and Grandmother to Jasmine Barth (David), Paris Loesch (Matthew), Corbin Loesch, Kelsey Rae Syrnyk, Skylar Syrnyk, Taytem Syrnyk, Brett Meyer and Garett Meyer made her journey to heaven on Nov 29th 2017. Dorothy was born on June 17th 1945 and was a vibrant spirit whose dynamic personality naturally drew others near her. Her signature color was red and she 'wore it', 'decorated with it' and 'drove it' very well, during her lifetime and we wondered if it stemmed from her Scottish roots! Her passion for singing and playing music was nurtured from an early age by her musically gifted parents Steve and Vida Innes. Her memory of being surrounded by music was a natural occurrence for herself and her siblings Stephen, Gordon, Verna, Elaine and Darlene in their childhood home. Her exceptional voice and love for the guitar was shared in her home as Gary harmonized along, on many community stages, with friends and family around the campfire at the Fork Lake, AB or anywhere that guitar would travel including to their second home in Queen Creek, AZ where her newly established friend group gathered round. She valued all forms of artistry including poetry, novels, stage plays, fashion design, home decorating and hosting beautiful, seemingly effortless, dinner parties for family and friends. She never hesitated to assist when called upon to lend support to others who valued her artistic eye! Dorothy could magically 'fancy up' an ordinary day and make it feel special for those around her. Dorothy and Gary spent their early married years in Kelsey, AB as they purchased Dorothy's Grandmother (Zimmerman) Burke's original homestead. In 1966 they purchased a farm at Spring Lake, AB where they raised their four children and instilled the gift of family values. In 1981 there was another move into their new home in Daysland, AB and the town life experience began. Dorothy loved her many job opportunities in Daysland such as a hostess at Blatz's Steak House, Calgary Power office administration and Canada Postal clerk before establishing the Daysland Bottle Depot alongside her life partner, Gary. Community members would remark and marvel at how these two could work together fluently day after day, Dorothy would comment that 'marriage isn't always easy but it is worth the effort!' Their retirement years were filled with attending family events, traveling with their dearest friends and many global adventures but Dorothy always believed 'Maui still won' as her favorite destination. It is with amazing grace that we shared our Mother's last earthly moments. She loved deeply and the love back from her husband, children and grandchildren was palpable. She was prepared for the final journey and her trust in our Lord Jesus calmed her spirit and brought peace to us all. Will the circle be unbroken by and by, Lord, by and by, there's a better home a-waiting in the sky, Lord, in the sky… A special memorial celebration for Dorothy will be held in the spring of 2018. Donations in her memory can be made to the charity of one's choice and the family would like to thank you for this consideration.
