Obituary of Douglas Riske
Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Douglas Albert Riske of Edberg passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the age of 62 years.
Doug was born January 30, 1955 in Camrose, Alberta to John and Dorothy. He was the third child with older brother Eldon, and sisters Elaine and Judy. Doug lived on the family farm, attending school in Ferintosh and New Norway. After leaving school Doug worked on the oil rigs in Alberta, Saskatchewan and B.C.. In July of 1982 he met Sherry Kerr and began dating, marrying on April 2, 1983. They soon began their family Lisa Marie, later joined by Dianna Lynn. Doug then started to look for work around home where he could be close to his family and started working at Everaz in Camrose. There he worked for twenty six years, and retiring in 2016. When laid off from the mill it was certain you would find Doug out and about shortly after looking for odd jobs with farmers, or others businesses just to keep busy and to make sure that his " wife and girls" had everything that they needed. Shortly after retirement Doug became ill and was ill until his passing, but never once showed any kind of weakness. He always kept positive, even at his weakest point. He was strong for everyone but most of all strong for his wife and kids to reassure them that everything was ok. Doug always loved the random phone calls from his family and friends , and the special visits he would get from all his " step grandkids", he also loved to bug his kids about the Calgary Flames or Stampeders were going to "wax" the team they were playing against. Or talk to his one son on how well the Flames played because they cheer for the same team. He enjoyed his hockey and football "dates" with his step- dad and talked highly about them and were always pre booked well in advance. Doug was pre-deceased by his father John in December 1982 and his nephew Kevin Maio.
He is lovingly missed by his wife Sherry of thirty-four years; daughters Lisa (Charlie) Kohler and Dianna (Jordon) Banack; his Guardian angel Cassie (Alex) DesRoches; mother Dorothy and "Dad" Dale Tinis; brother Eldon (Brenda Anderson); sisters Elaine (Richard) and Judy (Robbin); step-brother Mark (Candra); step-sisters Pat (Graham) and Kim (Kevin); a special friend that he called brother Gerry ( Karen) Fankhanel; special friends Lois and Brian "BABA" Scarrow; and a host of extended family and friends.
A Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Garfield Vikse officiating.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Lakeview Cemetery in Edberg or to the charity of one's choice.
