Obituary of Patience "Paye" Rood

Patience "Paye" Rood of Daysland passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the age of 90 years. Patience Cook was born on February 5, 1927 to William and Sarah Cook at home near Driver, Saskatchewan. She was the first of fourteen children. She attended Victory School near Driver until grade nine, and then finished her schooling in Smiley, Saskatchewan. In 1945, the family moved to Cawston, B.C. In 1947, she moved to Penticton where she boarded with Phil and Mary Alcock and worked in their grocery store for four years. She then moved to Prince George where she worked in a meat locker plant. On July 18, 1952, Patience married Archie Parsons and lived in Fort St. James until moving to the farm by Daysland, Alberta in April 1959. They had four children, Robert (Bob) Parsons, Clara (Gord) McRae, Jean Parsons, and Lois (Wane) Duckett. Archie Parsons was killed in a vehicle accident in August of 1967. On July 18, 1969, Patience married Lloyd Rood and to this union, one child Cheryl (Tim) Craig was born. Lloyd and Patience continued to live on the farm until they moved into Providence Place in Daysland in 2016. Patience always loved her flowers and garden and spent many long hours cultivating and combining, milking cows, feeding pigs, and all that farming entailed. She was always there when the children came home from school where they enjoyed home cooking, canning and her loving care. She is survived by her husband Lloyd; five children; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; nine siblings; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her first husband Archie Parsons; parents; sisters Eunice Bradbury and Elsie Wellbourn; brothers Ron Cook and Churby Cook; as well as, her grandson Cody Parsons. A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from the Daysland Community Hall with Garth Cook officiating. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of one's choice.
