Franziska (Frances) Selin of Camrose, formerly of East Hay Lakes, Alberta passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the age of 83 years. Frances Selin of Camrose formerly of East Hay Lakes passed away on Wednesday January 31, 2018 at the age of 83 years. Frances was born on the family farm on June 30, 1934 to Carl and Marie Fuernkranz. She was the second eldest of seven children. Frances was baptized and confirmed at St. Lukes Lutheran Church. She attended Swan Hill school through grade eight. At this time she was required to help full time on the family farm. Frances was a very capable young girl and contributed in all areas of the farm. There were the daily chores of milking cows and tending to other farm animals. Fieldwork and hauling cream to town all done with horses was also part of her family farm education. In 1952-53 Frances was able to add to her education. She spent a year at Vermilion College and graduated with a diploma in Home Economics. This was a special time for her which she thoroughly enjoyed, creating some lasting friendships. On August 24, 1955 Frances married Norman Selin of East Hay Lakes. Together they purchased two quarters of land in the area where they farmed and raised their three children Ivan, Larry and Bonnie. Frances took pride in keeping her yard and garden in a perfect state while helping to keep the family farm running smoothly. Frances was able to do any farm chore that needed to be done from hauling grain, milking cows, to plucking chickens. She was a devoted member in the ladies aid at Wilhelmina. She loved dancing, curling, sewing, knitting, baking, puzzles and most of all she loved music. She will always be remembered for her hospitality, no one ever left the Selin household hungry. In December of 2010 Frances moved to Deer Meadows in Camrose. She very much enjoyed the activities and socializing that were offered there. For slightly more than a year Frances was in Maple Cottage at Bethany Meadows. Frances will be remembered as a loyal friend, loving mother and a special Grandma and great-grandmother by her children Ivan (Angie), Larry (Patricia), Bonnie (Douglas) Horte; grandchildren James (Cheryl), Jody (Brad) Melin, Bradley (Britney), Ryan, Meaghan, Erica (Jason) Wiese, Karen Horte, Gary Horte; great-grandchildren Colton, Axl, Brantley, Maybel, Lawson and Payten; siblings Mary Grams, Christine (Carl) Selin, Rudolph (Bonnie) Fuernkranz, Carl (Sharon) Fuernkranz, Angela Bergquist, Marleen (Dieter) Gruenberg and numerous nieces and nephews. Frances was predeceased by her husband Norman, parents Carl and Marie Fuernkranz, and brother-in-law Norman Grams. Frances will live on eternally in our hearts and memories - we will never forget her. A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 12, 2018 from the Wilhelmina Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Chetney officiating. Interment has taken place in the Wilhelmina Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Wilhelmina Lutheran Church or to the Wilhelmina Cemetery fund.
