Please share a memory of Vivian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vivian Allan Howery was born in Hanna, Alberta December 27, 1924, to Wesley and Alice Howery. Viv grew up with his older brother Wesley, younger sister Marjorie, and younger brother Ken. He went to a school by the name of Saar which was later moved near Spondin, Alberta. After his school years, Viv worked with cattle and horses at the Mattis Ranch. He married Ina Mulgrove in 1952 and together they had three children; Garry, Debbie, and Valerie. The family moved to Viking, Alberta in 1963 and Viv farmed there until retirement. He loved his horses, raced pony chuckwagons for many years, and was instrumental in the formation of the Viking Gymkhana Club. Viv's other hobby was golfing, and although he didn't learn the game until he was 65, he became very passionate about it. For many years he also enjoyed travelling to Arizona in the winter months. Viv had strong work ethics, evident even after retirement with his hard work in his garden and yard. He moved into Viking in 2002 and in 2009 he moved to the Rosealta Lodge in Camrose, Alberta, where he lived until Thursday, June the 6th, 2013. Viv was predeceased by his son Garry Howery; grandson Marc Howery; brother Wesley Howery; sister-in-law Betty Howery; sister Marjorie Mckay; and brother-in-law Fraser Makay. Viv was survived by his brother Ken (Marilyn) Howery; daughter-in-law Colette Howery; daughter Debbie (Barry) Quinton; daughter Valerie (Mark) Shaw; and grandchildren Shawn Howery (Kerrie Gould), Trevor (Wendy) Howery, Kimberly (Aaron) Barkley, Corey Quinton (Sheree Duncan), Matthew Shaw; great-grandchildren Emma and Logan Barkley; and nephew Darryl (Kathy) and daughters Megan and Alicia. A funeral service was held on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel (4817 51 Ave Camrose) with Alvin Sorenson officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Viking Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to STARS, the Hospice Society of Camrose & District, or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
