Obituary of Maurice Berry
Please share a memory of Maurice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mr. Maurice Berry of Camrose, formerly of Daysland, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the age of 87 years.
Maurice was born in Daysland on December 31, 1925 to Chester and Margaret Berry. Maurice and his five brothers and sisters grew up on the family farm north east of Daysland. He attended the Pryor and Leith schools and then went on to attend Daysland High School. After graduating, Maurice went to work in Edmonton for White Rose Oil. In 1953, Maurice married Mary Wallis and just celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in February of this year. While in Edmonton, they had 6 children; John, David, Douglas, Ross, Dean and Anne. John and David died in infancy. In 1962, Maurice and Mary went into partnership in the Corner Service, a service station, bulk fuel station and restaurant in Warburg. Maurice worked long hours repairing tires, fixing vehicles, delivering fuel and doing all the books for the company. In 1971, they sold the business and Maurice began working for Crawford's of Alberta as a travelling salesman. In 1974, they moved to Camrose where Maurice became the Operations Manager for Crawford's, until his retirement in 1990.
Maurice was very passionate about life. He had many friends and enjoyed being with them. When Maurice set his mind on something it was done and it was done big! That was evident in everything that he pursued such as antique collecting, Avon bottle collecting, flower gardening, woodworking and painting.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Anne (Vince) Flynn of Camrose; Dean of Red Deer; Ross (Ron Roberts) of Toronto; Doug (Joyce) of Edmonton; four grandchildren, Lindsay Flynn, Warren Berry, Michelle Flynn and Stuart Berry; three sisters, Dorothy Spiller of Daysland, Anne Spiller of Edmonton and Elsie Thorburn of Evansburg. Maurice was predeceased by his wife Mary and brothers Leon and Stanley.
A funeral service was held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. from Camrose United Church with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Daysland Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Daysland Cemetery Fund.
