I wish to extend my condolences to the family and friends of Rupert Wenig.
Although I never met Mr Wenig in person, I came to know him through my participation in the Western Canadian Metal Enthusiast Network, a form of social media on the internet.
Rupert was very knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects and both generous and patient in sharing his knowledge. He assisted me and countless other people through the words and photographs he provided in answer to our questions and just helpful observations he contributed to conversation threads he chose to particpate in.
In addition to addressing topics raised by others, Rupert also shared insights regarding ambitious projects of his own undertaking. By so doing, Rupert provided inspiration and stirred self-confidence in others. He accomplished this by revealing his thought processes in planning, the workshop techniques employed to accomplish tasks, the work-arounds he developed to overcome adversity. Time spent observing Mr Wenig's approach to projects taught people ways to achieve goals that otherwise might have seemed unattainable. One could not follow the course of his projects without coming to appreciate the importance of patience and perseverence. Moreover, the extensive comments and images provided to document progress were filled with countless helpful nuggets that anyone paying attention could not only use in the context that Rupert mentioned them, but also adapt to utilize in any number of other types of situations.
All the while, Mr Wenig conducted himself on-line in a courteous, thoughtful and considerate manner. No small feat in the world as it is these days.
The time that he devoted to his on-line presence over the years must have been considerable. This time spent in front of a computer would have been time away from those near him and from real life obligations.
To those of you around him who perhaps bridled at the investment of time he committed to educating, encouraging, and otherwise engaging with distant digital strangers such as myself, please know that we greatly value the life lessons and skills which his selfless mentoring provided to us. Hopefully, Rupert felt our appreciation and derived some quiet satisfaction from this.
It perhaps might be a comfort to know that a great deal of the wisdom Rupert shared during his life lives on. Not only does it reside in the memories of those of us whom he mentored, to be passed on by us in his name to those who follow, Rupert's wisdom stands quietly in the archives of his internet posts - ready to be summoned in answer to future searches by people seeking out the kind of expertise Rupert acquired and shared during his lifetime. A lasting legacy in remembrance of a fine man.

We in the AMEN group were so very shocked and saddened to hear of Rupert's passing. He has many friends and admirers here.
Rupert was always ready to help and share his extensive knowledge and expertise with everyone. Over the years he has been a very good host in group or individual training and tutoring sessions.
