Cornelia "Corrie" Anna Marie Spruyt
(January 14, 1927 - September 17, 2018)
Cornelia Anna Maria Spruyt (nee Van Heinen) was born in Lopik, Netherlands, on January 14, 1927, and passed away September 17, 2018, at the age of 91 years.
Corrie married Francis Spruyt on April 22, 1952 and immigrated to Canada two weeks later. She and Francis settled in the Coronation area and remained there until 1966 when they moved to the Armena area to continue dairy farming until 1995. Corrie’s dedication in life was her family. She was extremely proud of every one of her nine children, twenty-four grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Mom had a green thumb and a deep love of nature. There were always plenty of flowers among the vegetables in the large gardens she loved to keep. Her plantings and feeders attracted a variety of birds and butterflies. She especially loved the hummingbirds that came to feed on the honeysuckle vines outside her windows
.
Left to cherish her memory are her children James (Diane) of Edmonton, Adrian (Fillette) of Kingman, Donald of Red Deer, Henry (Sandra) of Okotoks, Elizabeth Spruyt of Camrose, Joan Clement (Milton Butt) of Red Deer, Trudy Ouimet of Foothills, Carla (William) Gerber of Camrose, and Maureen (Dennis) Cadden of Bethel, Connecticut; twenty-four grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
Cornelia was predeceased by her husband Francis; infant son Benjamin; three brothers Johannes, Adrianus, and Antonius; one sister Elizabeth; and son-in-law Yves Ouimet.
She will love the gardens in heaven.
A Funeral Mass was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018 from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, (5010 48a Ave Camrose) with Rev. Larry Pederson as celebrant. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery.
