Obituary of Laverne Magdalene Zimmer
Laverne Magdalene Zimmer
(December 4, 1929 - September 27, 2018)
Laverne Magdalene Zimmer, beloved mom, grandma, and great grandma passed away peacefully in Camrose on September 27, 2018 at the age of eighty-eight years.
Laverne was born December 4, 1929 near Strome, Alberta to parents Valentine and Alma (nee Steil) Poepping. She married Norbert Zimmer on July 11, 1950 and they had three children, Darlene, Debby and David. They farmed in Daysland area until 1983 when they moved to Camrose while son David took over the farm.
Laverne was a hard working wife and mother raising children, milking cows on the farm, planting a huge garden and tending to her many beautiful flowers and lush green lawn in the summer. Everyone always enjoyed her cooking and baking. Her homemade buns were a huge hit. She was a very active member in the church and CWL where she volunteered countless number of hours. She enjoyed getting together with family and friends for home cooked meals and card playing. Laverne loved children so she fostered many young children over the years. She always put everyone else’s needs before her own, opening her heart and her home to babysit for numerous people right up to the time she moved into Bethany Meadows.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Darlene (Lloyd) Van Slyke, Debby (Guy) Laventure; son David (Martha); foster sons Vincent and Warren; eleven grandchildren, Crystal (Roger), Ryan (Chantelle), Candace (Brett), Aaron (Crystal), Ashley, Amy, Amanda (Carl), Shauna (Jason), Sarah (Nicholas), Larissa (Bobby) and Bonnie; sixteen great-grandchildren, Justin, Paige, Corey, Carter, Alexa, Hannah, Everett, Chloe, Abigail, Gracie, Caleb, Marcus, Luke, Ella, Hadley and Dawson; sisters Shirley Bright and Donna Espenberg; sister-in-law Doris Poepping; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Laverne was predeceased by her husband Norbert; sister Jeanne Kroetsch; twin brothers Ervan and Norbert Poepping; and brothers-in-law Bill Bright, Eric Espenberg, and Delmond Kroetsch.
A Funeral Mass was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 1, 2018 from the St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, with Rev. Larry Pederson as celebrant.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Laverne's memory may be made to Hospice Society of Camrose and District or to the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation.
