Donald Oscar Reum of Rosalind, Alberta, formerly of Ryley, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the age of 75 years.
Donald better known as Don or Donnie was born on September 19, 1943 at home in Ryley, AB; to Oscar and Frances Reum. He was the oldest of six children. He spent much time growing up on the family farm south of Ryley before making his way to Edmonton where at the age of seventeen he joined the Princess Patricia’s Light Infantry, a few years later he became hooked to the oil patch specifically service rigs, a career that would last fifty years.
Don travelled many places with the oilfield, all over Alberta and Saskatchewan, the United States and the Hamada desert in Libya. Many in the oilfield considered him the hardest worker and a legend.
Don was also a family man, even if he didn’t really show it; family always came first, taking his family on many trips, playing sports, and games. Gardening was a big passion, he had an amazing green thumb loving his roses, and absolutely loved his lawn, always keeping it perfectly manicured. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, slow pitch, camping, and visiting.
Don leaves to morn his wife Rosanne; children Susan (Mark) Scabar of Camrose – grandchildren Matthew and Katelin; Sharri (Gary) Kelly of Sherwood Park – grandchildren Conner, Graeme and Teagan; Cheryl (Colin) Robinson of Camrose; Donald (Stacey) Reum of Forestburg – grandchildren Steffani, Bennie, Carysn, Savannah, and Kayden. He also leaves to morn his siblings Brian Wolfe of BC, Blaine (Tammy) Reum of Lethbridge, Brenda (Ted) Motiuk of BC, and Wanda Magnan (Brian Weisgerber) of B.C.; as well as numerous relatives and many friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Oscar and Frances Reum, Sister Eleanor Mareck, and special friends Mike Bradley, Jeff Rideout, and Yvonne Grundberg.
A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2018 from the Bawlf Lutheran Church, with Rev. John Strecker-Baseler. Interment has taken place in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Ryley.
