Dennis Ewanyk
I learned yesterday (May 15/2019) that Dennis passed away. My heart sank. I warmly extend my condolences to his family and those that knew him.
Dennis was my supervisor when I was doing my registration hours to become a clinical psychologist - some 20 years ago. I wanted to learn the medical model of psychiatric and psychological care inside and out and I met my goal working under him for 2 years. He wanted me to learn and to learn well -- he gave me intense, mind blowing cases and carefully watched my ever move ensuring I offered a high degree expert care to clients. He was also extremely strict around assessment work.
In fact, I frequently tell my ethics students Dennis' high standards for learning how to do assessments (e.g., WAIS) - he had me practice for days on end until I could administer the test flawlessly. Then, before I could offer the testing to clients I had to administer the test to him several times - and each time he would throw out many curve balls to determine if I could handle anything that might emerge during test and the analysis phase. THEN, I co-administered the test with him until months later, I was given the permission to give the tests. He was extremely strict in adhering to the protocols around assessment - which is a lost practice today.
When I train people in assessment today, I follow Dennis' model. He made a significant impact in my clinical teaching and practice - there are many traits I absorbed from Dennis that reminds part of me some 20 years later. Heck... I even picked up one of his mannerisms - holding the nose in a downward motion while listening to a client!
I am honoured to have learned from him. I hold Dennis very fondly in my heart.
Blessings.

Sending our deepest condolences.
Cousin Dennis stayed with us in Fort Nelson and he worked in the lab at the gas plant. Many great memories of Dennis coming out to Flatbush in the autumn to hunt.

Dennis was an incredible guy. He fell in love with with a gal, who fell in love with him. She had 6 kids. He loved them all.
I admire him so much for being a loving and caring husband to Marg, and a true, kind, loving, solid Dad to my nieces and nephews. He went through alot. Yet was always there for his family.
I wish I had a chance to say thank you, Dennis.
But I guess that’s what Heaven is for....
Love to all...
Aunt Cath
PS. Gran loved Dennis, too. And felt like a sister to Katie.
Sometimes the best family is the one you meet along the way...
