My deepest sympathies to Lorraine, Jon and Erin. It was a privilege to have known Donald all those years ago in 1991. Lest we forget.

I had the good fortune of Donald being my uncle before he had a family of his own. I first knew him as a bachelor farmer with a large-as-life portrait in the Lyseng Photography Studio window. I remember him presenting me with a Golden Book edition of Cinderella for my birthday. This beautifully illustrated book was special to me and as I look back, I think that was because it was an unexpected gift.
Unexpectedness could be seen as the essence of Donald's charm. Donald was a farmer, but he was so much more than what you might expect. He was an accomplished dancer, local historian, naturalist, regular writer of Letters to the Editor, he whistled and sang while he brushed his teeth, and he married and had children as a quinquagenarian.
Donald was the son of a Victorian father and a Pioneer mother. He was much loved and admired. His extraordinary presence will be missed.

Donald took over our family farm and also became the family mentor. We all looked up to him and respected his advice and guidance. He was kind and considerate and always made time for his family and friends
He was very knowledgeable about Rosalind history and the building of the community. Donald was well read and had a vast knowledge of world affairs and history.
Donald loved to dance. Often Sunday's were spent cross country skiing with family and friends. He went hunting, however, the hunting was always secondary to his love of being in the mountains. .He was always proud of Loraine's garden and all the home grown food.
Remembering Donald:
* Singing especially first thing in the morning (I think he woke up whistling and singing)
* Porridge and breakfast maker in the morning
* Walks at the river valley
* His love of classical music and opera
* His love of community
* His love of nature and the farm and farm life
* His humor
* His warmth and kindness
* His love of the country
* He was truly a Country Boy
* He will always have a special place in our hearts

'Dad' will continue to have a special place in my heart. My Canadian father who encouraged me to sing in church, the retirement home, and at 'home' of course. Such a gentle, caring man... My deepest sympathy to 'Mom', Jon, Erin and their families.
