Obituary of Raymond Kingo Hansen
Raymond Kingo Hansen
(February 17, 1944 - July 23, 2019)
Ray Hansen passed away on July 23, 2019 at the age of 75 years.
Ray was born in Camrose, Alberta on February 17, 1944. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Peder and Helga Hansen. As a young boy, he was known to many as “Sonny” and enjoyed accompanying his grandfather delivering water to Camrose residents.
In 1963, Ray began his apprenticeship as a dental technician in Edmonton, and in 1969 he passed his denturist exam and opened Hansen Denture Clinic on Main Street, Camrose. The clinic moved to its current location in 1974. On March 17, 1976, Ray married Mona Van den Brink. Together, they raised two sons, Michael (Tracy) and Steven (Lesley Binning), and became proud grandparents to Landon, Ethan, Kyle, and Adam.
Ray took great pride in his profession. He served on the executive of the Alberta Denturist Society for fourteen years, and during his career he mentored over fifteen denturist students at his clinic. He had a passion for antique vehicles and always hoped to have more time to work on the ones that he had accumulated. He also enjoyed taking road trips with Mona, and travelling to Hawaii to escape the winter.
In April 2019, Ray was diagnosed with advanced amyloidosis, a blood disease that he fought courageously until his passing on July 23, 2019.
He will be remembered for his mischievous sense of humour, his genuine smile, and for his love for his family, friends, and community.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Mona; sons Michael (Tracy) Hansen of Camrose and Steven Hansen (Lesley Binning) of Camrose; four grandchildren Landon, Ethan, Kyle, and Adam; and daughter-in-law Amanda Mooney (Chester).
Ray was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Peder and Helga Hansen, his mother Lily, and his half-sister Betty-Lou Bystrom.
A Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 29, 2019 from the CityLights Church, 4920 48 Street Camrose with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Camrose Valleyview Cemetery.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Ray's memory may be made to the Raymond Hansen Memorial Award at NAIT ( https://www.nait.ca/giving/memorials/raymond-hansen ), or to the charity of one's choice.
