Obituary of Leonard Gordon Egert
Leonard Gordon Egert
(August 21, 1949 - December 6, 2019)
Our beloved brother and uncle passed away on Friday, December 6, 2019 in Camrose, Alberta at the age of 70 years.
Leonard was the twelfth child born to Anton and Lidia Egert on August 21, 1949 in Camrose, Alberta. Leonard grew up on the family farm near Edberg, Alberta. Leonard was predeceased by his parents Anton and Lidia, brother Waldemer, and brother-in-law Ervin Stebner. Leonard had many interests. He loved going on holidays to a place with a beach to sit on and sun tan. Gardening was one of his top priorities. He was always so excited when the greenhouses opened to check out new varieties of tomatoes and other plants to grow. That also meant peppers, strawberries, lettuce - even a Calla lily greeting you at the front door along with smiling pansy faces. Inside the house were many plants including an orange tree that bore fruit. He didn’t have a vehicle, so he used his phone to keep in touch with his friends and family. It meant a lot to him to visit on the phone.
Leonard also loved sending and receiving cards in the mail. He would use the largest stamps and the nicest ones you could ever find. When he received any pictures from family, he had a special place for them on display.
Leonard also enjoyed listening to music on the radio or record player. A passion for alarm clocks and wall clocks can be noted throughout the house. Another passion of his was recipe books, even clipping recipes out of newspapers. It was not uncommon to pass on a recipe if he thought you would like it. Church was a priority and he could be found sitting in a favourite spot most Sunday’s.
He is survived by his brother Daniel (Lilly), sister Hilda Stebner, brother Alfred (Erika), sister Jennie (Ray) Riske, brother Raymond (Esther), sister Lilly (Jim) Wright, brother Ronald (Margaret), sister Edna (Werner) Haag, sister Helen (Adolf) Pelzer, brother Harold (Grace), brother Eldon (Shirley), and sister Linda (Darrell) Croswell; and many nieces and nephews.
We will miss you and will always cherish
your presence in our hearts.
A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2019 from the Rose City Baptist Church, 6406 44b Ave Camrose with Rev. Dave Cawley officiating. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery.
