Dear Dorothy,
Please accept our deepest condolences.
I have just learned about Frank's passing, and even though we have not seen each other for almost 20 years, had hoped to visit Camrose with our children and see you both again.
I met Frank in 1997 in (of all places!) an internet chat room for Coronation Street fans! His monikker was "Cunning Fiend", and he was witty and scathingly funny, and I enjoyed his remarks. When the moderator told me that we were both in Camrose (what were the odds of that?! It was a small group), we met in real life.
And then, you both took me under your wing! I had no family in Camrose, and only former colleagues of Pierre's with whom we had lost touch as they moved on to new jobs. Pierre had loaded up our car with the cats, and had driven to Ontario to start a new job; I was on my own to sell the house, and see to the packers and movers. You and Frank made sure that I did not feel alone, and when the house was packed up, you invited me to stay with you both, and saw me off at the airport. You and Frank helped me bid adieu to Alberta in the most lovely way. Your kindness was everything to me.
We saw each other a couple more times, but it has been almost 20 years. All these years, I have never forgotten you both. We always meant to return to Camrose, but you lose track of time, thinking you have all the time in the world.
I wish I had made certain that Frank knew how grateful I was that he was there in a difficult time, and how much I enjoyed the laughs and insights. Thank you Dorothy, for your kindness and caring. I hope that you have been surrounded by the same love and kindness and generosity of spirit through these difficult times as you have both shown others.
Much love,
Monika Dankova and Pierre Blais and family (Ottawa)
(We finally adopted our first dog recently, a rescue from Greece, and I wanted to name her Peggy in honour of your inimitable Jack Russell Terrier; her name is Peppa, so almost Peggy.)
