Joe had such a huge influence on my life and career. He influenced how I talked to students and adults during my career as an educator. My thoughts are with Wes, Jim and family.

To all of the Voytechek family, I have life long memories of "Big Joe" as Dad and he were the very best of friends. I recall Big Joe coming with Dad many times to Wetaskiwin to help me out with my homes and of course any excuse they had to go to the cabin always ended with a drink!! Big Joe was also the only person who called Dad sailor! Both your Mom and Dad were wonderful , kind , generous and loving people....that is their legacy. Sending hugs from Jude, Deb, Shane(Linda) and Gordie(Linda) McLean.

Sending along condolences to the Voytechek family. One of my favourite memories was going swimming with Joe and Phyllis long ago in the early 1980s when I was a young mother. They were friends and neighbours to my mother who lived across the alley from them. Take care, they made a difference in my life and I still love swimming!

I meant Joe in the seventies when I started working at Western Supplies Limited (now EMCO) the local plumbing wholesale. Our relationship quickly turned into a friendship that lasted long after Joe retired. Joe was a true gentleman with a gentle soul. He spoke often of his family and was proud of all his children and grandchildren. And there was never any doubt about his love for Phyllis. My deepest condolences to the Voytechek family.

On behalf the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and the entire ACAC community of student-athletes, coaches, administrators, alumni and supporters, I would like to offer heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Joe Voytechek on his recent passing.
The ACAC enjoyed the opportunity to induct legendary Vikings hockey coach Joe in the ACAC Hall of Fame as recently as 2017 where he shared vivid memories of those early ACAC coaching experiences.
His enshrinement means he will forever be remembered for his coaching skills and knowledge, but most importantly for the life lessons and mentorship he imparted to so many fortunate student-athletes.
Rest well Coach.

To Charlotte, Marlaine, Mike, Wes, Jimmy, Pat and families,
It is will great sorrow that I send this message. Mr. Voytechek was a kind, caring gentleman to everyone. He always had time to chat if you met him around town. I love how he always called Mrs. Votechek his "bride" and I feel he has missed her dearly the past year. My dad had him do the plumbing at our house and he always called ahead to make sure the dog was put away as our blue healer always gave him a little nip to get him going. We don't know why because Mr. Voytechek was the only person she did this to and Mr. Voytechek would hurt a fly. Your whole family is kind and has always been very good to my whole family. Please let all the wonderful memories help you get through this difficult time. Sending big hugs!!❤

Joe was the best man at our wedding on the 24th of May, 1952. As George and Joe entered the church and the service began, some little voice called out, “DADDY!” Was it Charlotte or was it Marlaine? This lightened up the seriousness of the occasion. Been great knowing the Voytechek family. Love, Jean Schnell Rodway

We are so very saddened to hear of Joe's death. He was so loved by our family. Joe was a lifelong friend of our dad, Bill Wilson. He also always checked on Mom ("Mrs. Bill") and her well-being after Dad's passing. Our sincere condolences to the Voytechek families.

“Coach” ...
Joe was like a dad to many of us who had him as a coach. Long before the term "life coach" came into existence, Joe spoke into our lives in ways that transcended the game of hockey even though he used the game to help shape and develop us as young men. Because Joe believed in us and our abilities, we began to believe in ourselves. I loved it when he would say, “Gentlemen, who’s Number One?” ... to which we would all reply, “We are!”. 45 years ago this March, the CLC Vikings won the first ever Canadian Colleges National Championship in part because of Joe, his leadership, and the efficacy he instilled in all of us. However, even more important than what he did with us at the rink, Joe exemplified what it meant to be a devoted husband, a loving father, a man of faith, and a skilled tradesman. Because of his profound influence in our lives, there is more than a bit of Joe in all of us who had the privilege to play and learn from him. To the family that remains and mourns his passing, thank you for sharing your dad with us during those years he was being like a dad to all of us!
Love you, Joe!
