Ellen Andrea Oppen

Ellen Andrea Oppen of Camrose, AB, formerly of Ohaton, AB, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2020 at the age of 106 years.
Ellen was born to Haakon and Helene Stensrud on August 4, 1913 in Loverna, Saskatchewan. In 1936 she arrived in Camrose seeking work in the area. She met her future husband William Oppen when she was invited for a meal at the home of his parents. In 1937, she and William were married at her parent’s home near Bawlf. They had one son, Eldon who was raised on the homestead owned by William and his brother Emil. In her early nineties, Ellen moved from her home into Eldon and Renea’s home, living with them for a few years. Then she lived for a year in Wainwright, Alberta. When room became available in Camrose, she made Seasons Retirement Home her home.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Eldon (Renea); three grandchildren, Becky (Dan) Keohane of Bawlf, Lisa (Chad) Kuefler of Galahad and Byron Oppen of Camrose; five great-grandchildren, Kory Keohane (Nikayla Hovde), Erin Keohane (Jessie Rudachyk), Brayden Kuefler, Colby Kuefler and Kelci Kuefler; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Stensrud and Shirley Stensrud of Ryley; and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband William; her parents Haakon and Helene Stensrud; sisters, Irene Campbell and Myrtle Sonfloo; and brothers, Norman, Hans, Cecil and Walter.
Ellen will always be remembered for her hospitality and loving kindness.
Interment has taken place in the Parkland Lutheran Church Cemetery at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2020.
A Funeral Service was held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel, 4817 - 51 Avenue Camrose with Rev. Melody Small officiating.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Ellen's memory may be made to the Stollery Children's Hospital.
