Alan, I remember what a special teacher and person you were when I taught your grade 7 Social Studies class at Round Hill during the 1995-96 school year. Sincere condolences to Alan Ilene and the Welde families. I was shocked to read of Olaf’s passing in the paper today. I remember him as a little five year old with long blonde hair and an engaging smile. He will be missed by many.

Words cannot describe the sadness we felt when we heard the news. I am so sorry we are so far away in this time but know Jayne and I remember Ole as that young man who always had a smile on his face and a warming kind word.As a small boy he looked out his bedroom window at Christmas time towards our farm to see if the tree was lit up. I remember him coming to the farm for Halloween and he would always ask, “ do you know who I am?” Smiling from ear to ear. Wonderful memories.

I did not know this young man personally. But I do recognize him. A few years ago I was working at a local chain store and a younger boy came in eager to purchase an iPod, the younger boy didn’t have enough money and was unable to buy the iPod. He was very distraught and heartbroken as he had saved his money up and was only $15 dollars short. I remember Olav because he came out of the line from behind the young boy and offered to help him pay the rest so he could get his new iPod. The little boy was so excited, and Olav was so generous and humble. I remember his kindness so well, I wish the family all the best.
