Obituary of Gerald Mario Blatz
Gerald "Gerry" Mario Blatz
(May 7, 1955 - September 19, 2020)
Gerry was born on May 7, 1955 and was raised on the family farm north of Strome. On July 31st 1976, he married the love of his life, Bonnie Badry, and settled on a farm not far from his childhood home. Together they had three sons; Morris, Brad, and Mark; and lived in Daysland, where they ran the golf course until they moved to Sylvan Lake in 1999. They ran a successful retail business for over 10 years, but the draw of the golf world brought them back to the Daysland Golf Club and eventually to Red Tail Landing Golf Club in 2015. Summers were spent on mowers and digging trenches, while winters were spent enjoying the sunny skies of Buckeye, Arizona. His final days were spent surrounded by friends and family back in Sylvan Lake.
Gerry had a love of golf, fishing, hockey, woodworking and life in general. He had a legendary work ethic and an uncanny ability to fix almost anything. He loved having a good time, which was clear by his infectious smile and unmistakable laugh. Above all, his greatest love was for his family, and his Lord.
After a short but heroic battle with cancer, Gerry passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the age of 65 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years Bonnie; children Morris (Jackie) of Beaumont, Brad (Dionne) of Didsbury, and Mark (Nikki) of Lacombe; seven grandchildren Sabrina, Corbin, Kaleb, Reese, Brayden, Dylynn and Maya; siblings Theresa (Frank) Tradler of Red Deer, Dianne (Jerry) Duff of Oliver, BC, Jack (Linda) Blatz of Bow Island, Geraldine (Charles) Marple of Edmonton, Warren (Colleen) Blatz of Oliver, BC, Glen (Marcia) Blatz of Bawlf, Christine (Blair) Richmond of Edmonton, and Doug Blatz of Gull Lake; and mother-in-law Geraldine Badry.
Gerry was predeceased by his parents Wendelin and Mary Blatz; father-in-law Stan Badry; sister-in-law Carol; and infant brother-in-law.
