To Sigrid and all of Lyle's beautiful children, I send my condolences and prayers for peace and comfort. Laverne, Phyllis, Wendy, I am so sad for you at the loss of your wonderful big brother.
I will light a candle for Lyle at our All Saints Service at Lutheran Church of the Cross. And remember him as the always laughing, joking, cousin and the kind gentleman who grew from that boy.
Peace and Love,
Cousin Janie Harke

With Lyle, there was always a story....always a belly laugh...always a twinkle in his eye. Lyle was a great Rook player. Lyle and Dad were slyly bidding on weak hands....with a promise of all high cards. He loved cars. My best but scariest moment was when he was driving a convertible. That means ....translated....that there was no roof....no back seat....no back walls...there was only a fabric rope to hang on to. I bravely grabbed that rope....as we raced through the open prairie roads.....gravel flying.....hair plastered on the crown of my head.....scared....but also wondering if there was a cloud in heaven for me to sing at haute pitch. What fun. My favorite memory was on those cold winter evenings.....the tunnel had been made to the barn....the cows were lolling in the fields.....oops barb......and Lyle would drag out Dads slide trombone.......he would pick it up....roll back his eyes....assume the stance....and Satchmo would play “As the saints go marching in”........thanks for the fun.......from sister LaVerne Polonsky.....Victoria, BC

Memories of Lyle are so much about the stories.
Friendly and outgoing, Lyle always had something on the go. We remember his cars, especially his first hot rod, later his Cadillac convertible.
Years working in the far north brought harrowing stories of polar bears attacking the work camp. Flights on small planes every few weeks didn't help his fear of flying, which became almost unbearable after helping to recover victims of a horrific plane crash. He met and chatted with Pierre Trudeau there, and looked after his son Sasha while he was touring the site.
Lyle had a very tender side. The birth of Charene was his bright star, and brought him much happiness. He always loved and respected our parents, and was glad Charene was part of the family home when he was away working.
A small memory, but nice: he lent me his Elvis Christmas album for my first Christmas away from home... and phoned me on the day Elvis died.
Jacques, Rob and I enjoyed our visits and chats with Lyle and Sigrun on our trips to Alberta. Remembering my big brother Lyle with love, Phyl

So sorry to hear of Lyle's passing. Ken and I spent a lot of time together with Lyle in our young adult life. Lyle was our best man when we married 57 years ago. Our sincere sympathy to the family. Cherish all those memories.
