We moved to our farm (Art & Ida Grahn's) in 1978. It takes a while to get to know the people in a new setting. One thing that I noticed early was, Walter Busenius was an ultra supporter of the community. He supported every function with help or attendance. He was renowned for his efforts in the Boy Scouts. He had a great sense of humour & was fun to visit. Sad his later years, he was so hard of hearing that it was hard to have a conversation with him.
Sympathies to his Family & Friends

My condolences to Walter's family. I knew Walter through boy scouts and am so grateful for all the time and effort he put in. He had a great sense of humour and we always enjoyed our outings. Rifle range, skeet shooting, bottle and battery drives, the Heritage museum in Wetaskiwin and camping. Walter always had those great green plywood camp kitchen boxes.
I can remember one time we showed up at a new campsite and Walter gave us jobs to do. I can remember Roger Knull and Robbie Cole being there. Roger finished his job quickly, pounding a branch into the ground to support the open lid of the camp kitchen. He asked Walter if the branch was good. Walter started pulling Roger's leg and calmly said, no, the branch needs to move a few inches one way. Roger jumped in immediately and eventually was done and asked Walter again. Again Walter said the branch needed to move again. After the third time of being asked to move it both Roger and Walter were laughing.
Walter had a great sense of humour and was clever, friendly and kind. As a kid it's easy to take these things for granted. Walter, Richard Knull and Andy Van Imshoot gave a lot of themselves and it's greatly appreciate.
Thank you Walter.

I, among many others I am sure, have fond memories of scouting thanks to Walter.
Only years later when I was a scout leader myself did I realize that it was perhaps those years as a Wolf Cub in Hay Lakes that were a motivation for me to get involved. Thanks again Walter!

Scouter Morley Harke. So sad to hear about the passing of Walter, my condolences to his family. Walter always had a smile and no matter what was going on his positive attitude was infectious. Walter’s passion for scouting was incredible, one special memory was our trip to Churchill, Manitoba to celebrate the Canadian jamboree in 1970. The jamboree hosted the Queen and her family for the opening ceremonies, as well our Wild Rose troop hosted a pancake breakfast for the entire camp. Many happy times were shared throughout the years, thanks for all the wonderful memories. Much love and admiration, Morley.

Growing up in Hay Lakes, myself and so many other boys were fortunate that so many men took it upon themselves to begin a scouting movement, and Walter was larger than life among them. Walter's genuine enthusiasm for his love of nature and the outdoors was infectious. He could then tie that treatment of, and respect for nature into how the values we choose to live by would develop our character and relationships with others. Difficult concepts for young boys. Each time we'd meet, I would always first thank him for that experience and how much fun that time was. And now for one last time to a truly exceptional man - Thank you Walter.
