I am so sorry for your (our) loss of Jonathan, a great loss to his family and also to humanity. I lived in the Old Main third floor dorm in a room just down the hall from Jonathan and have fond and happy memories of that year ('70-'71). Memories of him at a keyboard, and at his desk, studying, but always willing to stop and visit and answer questions. He was the guy that seemed to know something about anything and everything. He was an inspiration for discipline and work: but that learning can also be fun and rewarding. For encouragement and some laughter, and great discussions, he was the one to visit. As you all know, it was an honor and a blessing to have shared moments of life with Jonathan. We are thankful for the Light he brought through his life.

Dear Robyn, Joshua and Rebecca, and Colleen and Gregory as well. I am so sorry to hear of the sudden and shocking loss of Jonathan from your lives. It is a tragedy that will weigh heavily on all of you,,,and on the many others whose lives were touched by Jonathan's kindness, humour, faith and music.
Jonathan and Robyn stood as my sponsors when I was baptized as an adult, when we were students and members of the Camrose Lutheran College together. Even though we drifted apart later, the two of them have continued to be present in my thoughts throughout my life.
Jonathan was in my thoughts this Christmas season, as he has been every year, when I heard 'Silent Night' because he told me once that he believed an ancestor had written its beautiful lyrics. Jonathan was a wonderful and wise counsellor and friend. He will remain in my thoughts for the rest of my life.
I know Robyn and his family look forward to joining Jonathan in heaven in the fullness of time...as do I.
God Bless all who mourn an exceptional man. With love from Margaret (Peggy) Huff

Pastor Klaus Ohloff at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in High River mentioned the passing of Joanaton Mohr recently.
I lived in Camrose from 1984 to 1994 and met Jonathan when he led one of the earliest offerings of the Camrose Community Choir in the late 1980s. We sang 'The Messiah'. There were 'old-hands' at choral singing and 'newbies' like me in the choir. He made everyone feel welcome. We rehearsed for several months at Messiah Lutheran Church. His love of music and the Messiah was contagious and soon he had all of the new choir on the same page. I'll never forget the joy on his face and body as he led us into the Hallelujah Chorus at one of our performances We were in sync and we knew it as you see it by watching Jonathan. You could feel he thought our group was doing the music some measure of justice.
I am sure he conducted the rest of his life with the same ' love of life'.
My sympathies of his wife Robyn and family.

I remember Jonathan very well , from my school days in Stettler Alberta . Music and our faith in God , were the two common interests in our friendship . Together , we sang in the school Mixed Chorus , Madrigal group , and Folk Mass group . We travelled to the local , and provincial Music Festival , and I think there was a musical drama one of the years in HS The first summer after University , four of us went out to Bar Harbour church camp , every Friday night , to sing to the campers . Jonathan even brought his string bass to add to the fun ! ! After our studies , I married a military man , which took me far away from home . I know I would have enjoyed keeping in touch with Jonathan in our adult years . The common ties of Faith in God , and love of music , would have secured a friendship .
To the family of Jonathan , Your loss is great . May God give you comfort and Peace , and good memories

Robyn,
I was saddened to hear about your sudden loss of Jonathan. I also just heard that your dad passed away in October. I’m sorry to say I lost track of your dad the last few years as I dealt with a Marlin’s illness and passing. Your parents were special friends. I continue to thank God for your mom; as our prayer group met for many years, we shared our love for our children and grandkids. I thank God for you Robyn, and thank God for Jonathan—both of you precious gifts to our church.
May God’s loving presence comfort you and your family, and His promise of eternal life sustain you during this time of loss.

From the school days of sharing a dorm floor, to attending class and seeing his friendship and then love for Robyn flourish, to the pursuit of academic excellence in choral and computer science, this is the path he walked. But most important for me is this: " here goes a common and ordinary man (a gentle and kind person) who walked with Jesus and let His mercy and kindness touch people." Jesus' blessing continue to abide with you Robyn and family as you mourn the passing of Jonathan.

Once my husband Mel , and I started to raise a family, we chose to name our first born son , Jonathan . Dear Robyn and family,
I grew up with Jonathan in Stettler and attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church that his father was the Pastor and also my God Father. We attended the same school, Sunday School, were confirmed together and I even spent a year at Camrose Lutheran College before moving to Calgary. Jonathan was always a kind and gentle soul who was extremely bright and talented and destined to do great things. We lost touch as we raised our families. My heart is so heavy with the loss of Jonathan. I know Jonathan is cradled in the arms of our Lord, and that same loving God will give you the strength you need to face these difficult days. Jonathan was a talented and compassionate man. He was also courageous: how brave is it for someone to decide after 10 some years as Augustana's Choral Director, not to mention a spouse and two children, to embark on a Ph D in computing science with the equivalent of less than two years of undergrad prerequisites?! And mischievously funny: I loved when he recounted stories of his time as a student at CLC (like faking ESP to one of his profs using signalling from an adjacent classroom) and his blunt/clever assessments of singers and instruments, like Alanis Morrisette or bagpipes, always offered with a slight smile and the characteristic twinkle in his eye. I will miss seeing and talking with him at Augustana events. My deepest condolences to Robyn, Joshua, Rebecca, and everyone else in his remarkable extended family.

I was shocked to read of Jonathan's death. He and I were classmates throughout our school years in Stettler, and fellow choristers in the Mixed Chorus at Wm. E. Hay Composite High School. I remember well his violin solos at school assemblies, and the warmth of his parents and family within our community.
The last time I saw him was at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Stettler Music Festival, where we sang once more under the baton of our former teacher, Ken Mallett. We caught up a bit on each other's lives then, and I was looking forward to seeing him at our 50th anniversary high school reunion this past fall. Because of the pandemic, of course, that event was postponed. . .

Jonathan was a excellent professor, a talented choral leader, a strong presence in the faculty at Augustana, and a supportive friend of many, including myself. I once remarked to him that he was a Linux operating system user who drove an old GM car. While at the time that was a cheeky remark from an economist about where we economize, it also captures some of his contrasts -- the love for choral music as well as computer code, do-it-yourself vs. pre-packaged purchases, etc.
My most cherished memory of Jonathan has to be his choral conducting. He and Marc Hafso invited me early on to join the choir, and then led us in some remarkable performances.
We had our differences - I was a Toyota Camry driver and a Windows computer user - but he and Robyn were there for me at one of the darkest hours of my life, for which I will be forever grateful.

I am deeply saddened by the death of Jonathan Mohr. Jonathan was extremely dedicated to serving others well. I remember at a meeting when his renewal as Chair was discussed and he told the meeting how he felt he had to attend every meeting and event at Augustana so that the Science Department was represented. The fact that he was able to make time for everybody and how caring he was, is illustrated by the following story:
One of my research goals is to make a low-cost electroanalytical kit that I hope to eventually donate to local high schools and developing countries for the purpose of teaching electrochemistry. A main component of the kit is the software that displays the signal during the experiments. Commercial software is very expensive and can only work with commercial instruments. I wrote to Jonathan explaining to him about the software and whether he would have time to write the software for me. Without hesitation, he said he will make time for it, despite all the other things he had going on at that time. Not only did Jonathan write a software program that worked very well, but I was also impressed and humbled at how committed he was to my project, which to me had no real value to himself.
My colleague in the research project David King and I asked Jonathan if he wanted to commercialize the project, but he said no, and that he wanted the program to be freely available so that anybody in every part of the world can use it.
Just last month (November), our electroanalytical kit story was featured in the University of Alberta Newsletter, Folio, and on the U of A website. Just before the story was published, Jonathan again found the time to update the software because he wanted to make sure it worked well especially since we were expecting more people to use the program after learning about it from the Folio article.
On November 23, he wrote to me: “I hope the Folio article leads to other media coverage as well and that other chemists find CheapStat and ChemCharts useful.”
I thank Jonathan for his invaluable contribution to my project, and his kindness to others. I will miss him a lot. Rest in peace Jonathan! With my deepest condolences, James Kariuki

I remember Professor Johnathan Mohr as my illustrious choir conductor. I was a part of the Camrose Lutheran College Choir for the 1980/81 year. I loved Johnathan’s wit and determination as he always encouraged and pushed us to be the most beautiful choir that ever existed. I had the opportunity to branch off and be a musician and vocalist for Prairie Wind that year as well and travel through many provinces and into the States representing the College through music and song! Thank you for the music Johnathan. Enjoy the jubilant choirs and magnificent music in the heavens!! I too am also related to a Mohr. My grandmother was a Mohr. Maybe we might be also related through music as my ancestor ‘Father Joseph Mohr’, wrote the words to Silent Night?

Pat and I were so sorry to learn of Jonathan's death. He was a wonderful colleague and a good friend. His contribution to Augustana was enormous. It is hard to highlight just one thing because he was so capable in so many areas: music and science, teaching, research and administration. I will always remember fondly the IDS classes we team-taught together; he was such a gifted teacher and so much fun to work with. Jonathan and I also worked together for years in administration at Augustana and I always admired his work ethic, his commitment, and his consummate skill in the many roles he undertook. Administration can be a hard slog and at times a rather thankless one but Jonathan always rose to the challenge and performed so capably, and always with such good humour and grace. He was a wise man and though we didn't always agree I learned that it was very important to listen carefully to his advice which was invariably sound and well thought through, even if it didn't always match my own previously held views. Robyn, Joshua and Rebeccah, please accept our deepest sympathy to you and your family. We know how much you will miss such a wonderful, loving, lively and caring husband, father, and grandpa. I am so saddened to hear this news. Jonathan was the first person I met at Augustana as he was on the interview panel that hired me back in 2012.
He was always supportive and definitely passionate about Augustana.
He introduced me to a Canadian tradition, a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. I had never had this combination before and he would often drop by when it was on the menu in the cafeteria to see if I wanted to join him.
We retired on the same day and rang the bell in the quad together with a few other colleagues.
My heart goes out to Jonathan’s family. He will be sorely missed.
