Obituary of Donald Scabar

Donald Mitchel Joseph Scabar of Camrose passed away on Saturday December 28, 2013 at the age of 68 years. He was born July 4th, 1945 to Louis and Mary and was raised in the Round Hill area with his five siblings. Don then attended Devry in Toronto where he study in radio telecommunications which brought him back to Edmonton where he worked for Canadian National Railways for many years. Following CNR Don left Edmonton and moved to the country where he built his next two homes and found himself in the Hay Lakes area where he started Tri-Bar Contracting. After many years in that location he then moved into Camrose where he built his next home and eventually started Pro-Lawn. Don enjoyed every aspect of life and especially cherished having a good laugh and socializing with family and friends. Don's greatest love was for his family, especially his grandchildren. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and accepted everyone for who they were. Don enjoyed curling, golfing and hunting as well as many other sports. He was extremely handy and was never afraid to build anything. He was very fond of spending his spare time in his garage using his many tools and equipment to manufacture scale sterling engines, steam engines and anything else that caught his fancy. Left to cherish his memory are his three sons; Rod (Michelle) of Calgary, Barry of Calgary and David (Leslie) also of Calgary. Don is also survived by his six grandchildren; Portia, Talia, Acacia, Michael, Sullivan and Dawson, his brother Arnold (Carol) his two sisters; Avis (Cecil) Huffman and Mary Lou Prusak. Don was predeceased by his parents Louis and Mary, two sisters; Edith and Lorraine and one granddaughter, Jorjia. Don was an amazing father, grandfather, brother, friend and a role model to many. As deeply as everyone cared for Don, he cared for them. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends and is now one more angel looking over us. A Divine Liturgy was held on Saturday, January 11th, 2014 at 1:00pm., from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church (5010 48 A Ave, Camrose) with Rev. Greg Faryna officiating. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to do so may make donations in memory of Don to the charity of their choice.
