I was saddened to learn of Dorothy's death. I have fond memories of her growing up as a kid at Camrose Lutheran College -- and later as a student. She was always kind and generous. I appreciated the fact she always remembered who I was -- along with the countless of other CLC/Augustana students that crossed her path. My condolences to Gary - and the Gibson family.

The Camrose ‘community’ has lost a well-loved, respected and admired ‘elder’. Dorothy embodied, to the fullest, the person who steps up when things need to get done and then humbly steps aside when credits and thanks are given. She most certainly was a ‘gentle soul’ who embraced her faith and her ‘spirit’ shone upon all who met her. She always had a kind word to share and her smile was both warm and genuine. Most of all she was a great ‘team mate’ to Garry and the recognition he received for his many accomplishments, he quickly acknowledged her contributions to them because they were a ‘team’. They were also a couple to be admired and appreciated for their honest and open enjoyment of life which they were quick to share with others. Many wonderful memories remain of a truly ‘lovely’ lady who shall be missed greatly but not forgotten. Thank you Dorothy for enriching Brenda’s and my life by being a part of it. Michael Mucz

Oh so many memories and such sadness to hear of Do’s passing. Such a special lady to so many of us ‘kids’. I will remember bus trips filled with fun and adventures. Visits with tea and always a beautiful handmade card for my birthday. Many hugs and sending love to all Gibsons, family and friends.

That line, "You look like a runner," worked on me too and I am so grateful it did! Being part of athletics at Camrose Lutheran College, along with being part of Gibber's Outdoor Leadership, and most importantly being welcomed into the Gibson family forever shaped my life. Thank you Dorothy, Gary, Nancy, John, and Carol for the memories.

In 1985, it was my first year at Camrose Lutheran College. Chapel service had just ended and over strides Gibber exclaiming, "You look like a runner." With that statement, the door opened for me to enter into the hearts and lives of Dr and Mrs. Gibson. Countless x country ski competitions, meals at their home, cards sent, a shawl made with love by Doh when my own mom passed are but a few of my treasured memories. The tears stream down for your loss and the loss we all feel. A hole is left in our hearts. Much love and strength to you in the time ahead.

I have so many memories of Gary, Dorothy, Nancy, John and Carol when growing up in Camrose. But most recently, I wanted to share how special Gary and Dorothy were to my Mom Inga in her last years in Camrose while she lived at Rosealta Lodge. On more than one occasion she would walk over and quietly let herself in to their home, and quietly wait to be acknowledged! Her visits were always welcome and they meant so much to my Mom! Dorothy was blessed with the gift of hospitality and certainly many were blessed by her!

So sorry to hear of Dorothy’s passing. My mom worked with her on a Nordic historical project, and when mom was diagnosed with ALS, Dorothy crocheted a beautiful shawl for her. Mom treasured this shawl, and Dorothy’s kindness. Our condolences to her family.

Dorothy was one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. Her nickname in our Soul Weavers group was “Momma Jesus” and I believe that suited her perfectly - I always felt a sense of peace in her presence. Dorothy was a friend of my Grama Laura Hutchinson, so seeing Dorothy would always remind me of Grama. Our heartfelt condolences to Garry and family. We have all been blessed to have known this tremendous lady. ❤️❤️

Condolences to the Gibson family on the passing of Dorothy. Dorothy was a person who was larger than life- she opened her heart
and her home to all. She was an exemplary person who was loved by all who knew her. Dorothy spoke with great compassion and love about her children and grandchildren. Dorothy always liked writing handmade postcards, with her unique signature photograph of nature, to people she knew throughout the world. She was a friend like no other and a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Gary. Her many kindnesses cannot be recounted because that is the way she lived her life on a day to day basis. My life has been enriched tremendously by knowing both Dorothy and Gary.

I was one of many who first knew Dorothy and the rest of the Gibson family through the ski team. So many great memories of get togethers in the Gibson kitchen with a bunch of rowdy teenagers but Dorothy was always the life of the party. She had a great way of making us all feel welcome with her generosity and warm smile but mostly I remember that she always had a story to tell and she made me laugh. I remember one festive evening there was large group of us and among the sandwiches and goodies on the kitchen table was a large punch bowl. Somehow it got knocked to the floor and shattered. It didn't Dorothy 5 minutes to clean it all up and replace it with another punch bowl from the closet. Apparently she had made a bulk purchase and used them for wedding gifts. I was so impressed by the whole production but mostly by the fact that she handled the whole thing with aplomb; like it was more amusing than a hosting debacle. She was fun!!

You can imagine my shock this week when I phoned the Gibsons and John answered. He then shared that he and his dad had just returned from the hospital where they had said goodbye to their beloved spouse and Mom. I had wanted to talk to Dorothy about a handmade card I had just found that day that she had written to us on January 27, 2010. This was a thanks in response for some pictures we had given them of Garry carrying the Olympic torch when it came through Camrose.
Dorothy was a remarkable woman and I have been blessed to have known her. She was resourceful, creative, hospitable, thoughtful, carrying and a supportive spouse, Mom and friend.
Gibber, as you grieve the death of your partner, know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of many! We love you! David and Darlene
