Ruth Amelia Grue
(July 30, 1928 - April 26, 2021)
Ruth Amelia Grue of Camrose, Alberta, formerly of Armena, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2021 at the age of 92 years.
Ruth was born on July 30th, 1928 in Donalda, Alberta to Emil and Olava Ramstad who farmed in the area. After graduating High School from Camrose Lutheran College she attended the U. of A. and got her Teachers Certificate in 1946. She taught at Baldenstein and then Armena beginning in 1948 where she met and married Evert Grue in 1949. He was a school bus driver in Armena. In 1952 with two small children, they moved into a new house built by Evert’s Dad in Armena.
Ruth was a stay-at-home Mom bringing six kids into the world before returning to teaching in 1966 at Hay Lakes. Her teaching career spanned 24 years and ended in Sifton School in Camrose in 1986 when she retired.
Ruth always had a bit of a travel bug and went to Vancouver with Evert and Doris and Adolph Peterson in 1951, and in 1956 she attended the Lutheran church convention in Minneapolis with Evert and her parents. They journeyed to Montreal for Expo ‘67 with six kids and took many short camping trips to Radium Hot Springs, B.C. and special places in Alberta. Visits to and from Norway with relatives were highlights.
Ruth loved gardening and cooking and like Evert always had a soft spot for the grandchildren and all living things.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Anne (Cal) Lyseng of Edmonton, Barry (Lin Knox) of Sundre, Ron (Sharolyn Pedersen) of Kingman, Sonja Denman (Don McMillen) of Vernon, Charles of Camrose, and James (Christine Adam) of Edmonton; twenty grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law Marvin of Evansberg.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband Evert; daughter-in-law Dawn; grandson Murray Denman; step-sisters Evelyn Tollefson and Kathleen Phillips; sisters-in-law Bethora L’Arrivee, Doris Peterson, Pearl Grue, and Mary Grue; and brothers-in-law Ed Grue, Adolf Peterson, Roy Phillips, Norman Tollefson, and Fred L’Arrivee.
