I have known Chis for over 40 years, collecting a lot of memories through that time. Chris was always a happy and loving man, who adored his wife, Joy. I can still remember the twinkle in his eye when he first told me of her. As life moved on we didn’t see each other that often, when we did it was like no time had passed. We recently connected in late August for a round of golf. We spent our time catching up, and what has always remained constant was Chris’s love, respect and passion for his family. He talked me through how Joy was doing and what they were planning, then on to each one of their children and spouses/ partner the love present in each of updates.
Chris was a special person, the people he touched made the world a better place.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention his giggle. Rest In Peace my friend!

My heart-felt condolences to Chris' family. I met Chris at the UofA when I started with Facilities and Operations in November 2018. During my first visit to Augustana, Chris and I realized that we had a long-time mutual friend, and that is when our connection was cinched. It was so obvious that Chris held his family so dear; he absolutely beamed when telling stories of his family, and especially of his grandkids. And Chris demonstrated that he genuinely cared for each member of his Augustana team, as though they were family also. Chris will be greatly missed.

Chris’s kindness and sense of humour stand out when I think of our work together at Augustana. Our conversations would very quickly move towards his latest plans to go fishing with his grandchildren. The smile on his face when talking about his family was priceless and will be dearly missed. Please accept my deepest sympathy at this very difficult time.

I first met Chris as a new faculty member at Camrose Lutheran College in 1984. I was struck from the start by his friendly manner, his dedication to his job, the quality of his work, and his leadership skills. He almost always wore a smile, and I never saw him lose his cool even in very stressful situations. He was a valued co-worker for 37 years. I am shocked at his passing and that I will never see him again in this world. I offer my deepest condolences to his family and other friends.

My love to Joy and all of his kids and grandkids. He was a special guy and I enjoyed my time working with him. He always had such an infectious laugh and patience for everyone when they were just learning the ropes around the Maintenance shop. He will be a sorely missed presence at Augustana.

My sincerest condolences on the loss of Chris. We met when Augustan became part of the University of Alberta and I was the University Architect then. Chris was a delight to work with and had a great love for his campus. He was instrumental in the development of many of the additions that were to come. His imprint on the campus is indelible. The world is not quite the same without him

Hello Joy and Family, my deepest condolences for your loss. Chris was a shining example of the leader as servant and I witnessed this over the many at CLC/Augustana. What I appreciated most about Chris is his ability to find the positive in everything and his stalwart commitment to the campus community. His care for students in the work he did was evident and I always felt he was a partner in our collective mission to support each other. I could always see that his love for Augustana was a reflection for the love he had for his faith and family. His face would light up every time he talked about you and his loss is deeply felt. ~ Rob Ford

Joy and family, We have been deeply saddened to hear of Chris's passing, and want to stand with you at a time for which there is no real preparation. As you will know, Chris touched many lives through his work at Augustana. Starting in 2004, I worked closely and appreciatively with him. At a time when so much was new, his resourcefulness and his goodness were constant. Chris was the person I had in mind when I used to say that everyone on campus shared in the teaching mission, not just professors in classrooms. He got it, and lived it. We had been thinking of you recently, since it is almost two years ago that we met by chance at the airport, and you were off to someplace warmer on a family trip. Now, we wish for you all the comfort, strength, and hope you need as you mourn and remember Chris.

As I bring Chris to mind a smile travels the length of my face - what a great colleague to have worked with. Even though I didn't know him well, I knew him well enough to know how much his family meant to him, how joy was such an easy expression for him to share, and how we all benefitted by having him a part of Augustana. His presence influenced that kind of smile that travels across the face. I add my condolences to the whole family, and to all who grieve because they knew the joy of knowing Chris.

Joy, my deepest sympathies to you and the family. Chris was both a valued co-worker and a friend that through our discussions I could feel the love he had for his family and the community. While I have been retired for several years, I retain great memories of working with Chris and his input into decisions that set positive direction for the future of the Augustana Campus. As people go through life through their decisions and actions, they touch people. These fingerprints of life cannot be erased away. Chris’s fingerprints of kindness will be enduring. The world is a better place with people like Chris having influenced the future generations. A big virtual hug to you and the family.

Joy, Becky and I send heartfelt condolences to you and your entire family. Chris was a cherished colleague. As Dean at Augustana, I valued his competence, his input and his leadership. He cared so much for the campus, the students, and fellow employees. It showed, and it was infectious. He also taught me more than a few things about fishing in Alberta. There are so many fond memories. Hugs from both of us.
