So sad to have just learned of Stephen’s passing. As a Yorkshireman visiting Alberta over the last 20 years working in ag sales, we had lots to chat about the few times each year I could get here. Rest in peace my friend, you will be missed.

I will forever remember Steve’s genuine smile, his gentle heart and his big belly laughs!
Growing up with Steve at Junior cattle shows with Ashlee And Morwenna and later on at Bull Congress, and seeing him around town, he knew when I needed a hug. He knew when there was nothing to be said, but just to give a hug. I’m so going to miss those bear hugs. His infamous “What do you know today?” Not hello, or how are you. And his “you know what I mean?”
He became known to my children as “the guy who drives the green f150” because they were soo little when they met him and my son was/is fascinated with all vehicles. And let’s face it “Hodgetts” is not easy for a 2.5 year old to spit out. So the “green f150 guy” just stuck with his sister too as she started talking… and Steve would always laugh and tell them “that’s me!”
If the kids had books in the truck, he took the time and looked at the pictures in the books with them and just smiled. He loved kids. Steve sure was a sweet, kind and gentle soul and my children and I are going to miss him!
Lots of hugs and love to you all!

My sincere condolences to the Hodgetts family. I came to know Stephen in my role as Camrose County Reeve and we always enjoyed our visits. Stephen was always so very positive and it was a pleasure to talk with him at County meetings and events. I will forever recall his "...do you know what I mean.." because I could tease him by saying "no, tell me what you mean" and then we would laugh. The community has lost a good man.

To all the Hodgetts children and their families, I am sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. I spent a lot of my growing up years with all of your family babysitting, working for your Mom or just visiting there with my Mom and know what a big part your family played in the community and with family and friends. I called on your Dad occasionally to check on my Dad if I couldn’t reach him and he always went straight over, being a good neighbor for many years. I hope happy memories carry you through the days ahead.
