Tom Wedgwood

Obituary of Tom William Wedgwood

Tom William Wedgwood

(October 10, 1930 - December 9, 2023)

Tom was born on October 10, 1930, in Camrose, Alberta to Harry and Mary Anne Wedgwood.

Tom was the envy of his friends as he was given his driver’s license at 14 years old to drive his father around, due to poor vision.  That’s where his love of driving and fixing things began. It didn’t matter what shape a chassis was in, somehow, he would get the parts and manipulate the parts from other vehicles to make it run. This skill became very handy in years to come.

Tom and Velma were married on August 17, 1953, at the Kelsey United Church. Shortly after, they moved to Medicine Hat and began their family. Doug, David, Judy, and Norma had completed their family and began many adventures.

Tom loved to fix everything from vehicles to houses. It seemed like everything he did, he did well. Proud moments included renovating school buses and building a camper to take his family on trips around Alberta. Installing a 327 Chevy motor in a 1960 Ford 1 ton truck made not only for a great conversation, but a real head scratcher when it came time for the boys to go get parts.
Camping and traveling Alberta with Velma was one of his favorite things to do. Loading up the motorhome and hitting the open roads, with a little Wilf Carter playing, meant that they were free to enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

Anyone who knew Tom knew not only his friendly smile and his generous heart, but his love of people. He would always find something in common with whoever he met, and a coffee and a visit was in order.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, however, there is peace in knowing he is with the love of his life and joining his loved ones in paradise.

Left to cherish his memory are his children David (Wanda) Wedgwood, Judy (Byron) Olson, and Norma (Joel) Coykendall; eleven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Tom was predeceased by his wife Velma; son Douglas; sister Barbara Hayduk; infant brother Tommy; and great-granddaughter Lydia Corrin Wedgwood.
