Obituary of Anna Antonia Szott

Anna "Anne" Antonia Szott

(September 14, 1930 - February 4, 2024)

Anna Antonia Szott was born on Sept 14, 1930 to Anton and Maria Podruzny in Poland. In 1936 Anna, her mother, father, brothers Frank and John, and baby sister Bernice travelled by ship to New York, then by train into Canada, settling in Round Hill, AB. Here they farmed and welcomed three more children: Henry, Frances, and Bert.

Anna attended school and helped raise her younger brothers and sisters until she went to work at the bank in Holden. Here she worked as a teller, book keeper, and translator as she could speak English, Polish, and Ukrainian.
On Oct 26, 1952, Anna married Peter B. Szott and moved to the Daysland area where they farmed and raised seven children – Raymond, MaryAnne, Stanley, Victor, Patricia, Henry, and Theresa.

Peter passed away in January of 1993 and after staying on the farm for several years Anna moved into an apartment in Camrose. She enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren. Eventually she moved into assisted living and then into long term care.

Anna passed away peacefully in Coronation Long Term Care on February 4, 2024 at the age of 93. She is survived by her children Ray (Marg) Shott, MaryAnne (Owen) Cook, Patricia Hollenbeck, Henry (Colleen) Shott, and Theresa (John) Golby; daughters-in-law Janice (Stanley) Shott and Rhonda (Victor) Shott; sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; sisters Bernice (Stan) Kozdrowski, and Frances (known as Sister Mary Blaise); brother Bert (Marilyn) Podruzny; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
