Obituary of Wayne Lowther

Leslie "Wayne" Lowther

(April 16, 1934 - March 24, 2024)

 

Wayne was born in Nanton Alberta in 1934.  He moved to the Ponoka area with his parents and brother Alan.  Wayne married Joyce in 1956 and had two daughters Lynne (Brent) and Susan (Wolf), ultimately giving him three grandchildren Jennifer, Amy and Nolan, and eight great-grandchildren.  Joyce passed away in 1997.  Wayne married Helen in 1999 and inherited three more girls Verlie (Andy), Vickie, and Vivian (Dwayne), and three more grandchildren Brandon, Adam, and Colby.


Wayne was a banker in the early years, and when he moved to Camrose in 1966, he worked for Manpower and Employment.  Upon retiring, Wayne volunteered with Victim Services for ten-plus years, as well as many other organizations.  Wayne was also very active with the United Church and sat on many of the boards.


Wayne and Helen enjoyed travelling, square dancing, camping, and spending time with friends and family.


Wayne lived in his home in Camrose from 1966 to the time of his passing.
 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Helen; his children Lynne (Brent) Stang, and Susan (Wolf) Hess; Helen's children Verlie (Andy) Weiss, Vickie McLean, and Vivian (Dwayne) Billard; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

 

Wayne was predeceased by his first wife Joyce; his parents Leslie and Alta Lowther; and his brother Alan Lowther. 

 

A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the Burgar Memorial Chapel, 4817 - 51 Avenue Camrose with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating.


If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Wayne's memory may be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
