Obituary of Stan Kontek

Stanley "Stan" Michael Kontek

(September 17, 1941 - April 16, 2024)

Stanley (Stan) beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, passed away on April 16, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital at the age of 82. Stan was born on September 17, 1941 to Mike and Julia. He grew up and lived on the family farm north of Daysland, attended Willow School until Grade 8 and then went to Daysland School. Stan had to leave school to work on the family farm. On June 20, 1970, Stan married Marion Hetzner. They started their married life together in Camrose where they raised their two sons Wayne and Laurie.

Stan worked for the City of Camrose in the recreation department for 8 years. He then began at Rosehaven Care Centre in the woodworking shop working with the residents until his retirement in 1996. Stan had a deep faith in his church. Receiving the Eucharist and attending mass were very important to him. Stan was a member of the Knights of Columbus and The Men’s Shed. Those two organizations held a special place in his heart. He loved music and played his steel guitar with Bev Munroe, The Country Gentleman, Rolling With the Flow, Camrose Connection, The Bailey Buckaroos, and Yesterday’s Wine.

Camping, fishing and quadding with his family and grandchildren made his day. Besides camping, Stan and Marion enjoyed many trips and bus tours together. He loved visiting and joking, and he never ever complained. Many commented on his sense of humour right until the end. Most of all he loved his family, especially his bond with his grandchildren, family always came first. His love, compassion and great attitude for life were infectious and his presence will be deeply missed.

Stan was predeceased by his parents Mike and Julia; sister Gloria; brother Ben (Marlene); and nephew Kevin. Stan leaves to mourn his wife of 53 years Marion; sons Wayne (Lisa Davis), Laurie (Jennifer); four grandchildren Branden, Tyson, Erin, William; sister Elizabeth; and numerous nieces, nephew and cousins.
