Obituary of Doug Solverson

Douglas "Doug" Edward Solverson

(November 18, 1957 - May 5, 2024)

Douglas Edward Solverson of Edmonton, Alberta, formerly of Killam and New Norway, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at the age of 66 years.

Doug was born in Camrose, Alberta on November 18th, 1957 to Donald and Winona Solverson.

Doug came from a large family, with four brothers and two sisters. Doug grew up in New Norway, where he went to school until graduating in 1975.  He enjoyed a busy childhood with many friends. He was especially close to his cousin Alan Luckwell, and neighbor Ken Durand. Doug also spent a lot of time at the Durand garage in New Norway, where he began to learn and love mechanics.  After graduating, Doug moved to Killam where he spent fourteen years working at Killam Transit Mix with the Cole family.

In 1989, Doug moved to Edmonton to pursue training at NAIT and a career in the field of machine maintenance.  His most recent position was at Kitchen Partners, where he gained the respect and friendship of his valued supervisors and coworkers.  The family would especially like to thank his co-worker Greg Macadam for his support over the past week.

Doug was an avid golfer and curler during his adult years. He spent many hours golfing and visiting with his friends from Drifter’s Lounge. Doug was a loving brother and caring friend. We will always remember him as a gentle, quiet, and charismatic person. He was a gentleman above all else. Words cannot express how much he will be missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his siblings Rick (Sharon), Donna (Rick) Garvin, Bob, Kevin (Judy), and Karen (Ulf) Dahlin; four nieces and twelve nephews along with their spouses and growing families. Doug was predeceased by his grandparents; parents Donald and Winona Solverson; brother Colin; great-nephew Jakob; and brother-in-law Ray.

Instead of a formal memorial service, the family has chosen to hold a private family gathering and inurnment at a later date.

If friends and family so choose, a donation in Doug’s name can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
