Obituary of Genevieve "Gen" Friend

Genevieve "Gen" Frances Friend of Rosalind passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the age of 96 years. Genevieve was born at her parents' house on October 7, 1917. Gen was raised in the Pleasington District near Forestburg. She went to school early at the Mount Zion School and graduated in Forestburg. Then it was to Normal School and graduated as a teacher. She taught at Armena, Ibsen, Kelsey and Rosalind. Gen married Bert Friend in August of 1945. Gen and Bert farmed and raised three girls and three boys. Gen loved her music, family, watching hockey, and family events. Some of her fondest memories were of teaching, lifelong friendships, her music pupils, school, church and Christmas concerts. Gen and Bert lived on the farm until 1988 then moved to Rosalind. On Bert's passing, Gen lived in Rosalind for a few years then moved to Camrose. Gen was predeceased by Bert and is fondly remembered by her children Linda (Ian Hall), Jane (Lester Blouin), Doug (Pat Vos), Barb (Roger Shermack), Neil (Teresa Boe) and Keith (Nancy Weller), 16 Grandchildren, 14 Great-Grandchildren, numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Genevieve was a caring and kind lady who was devoted to her faith and family. Her family and friends meant a great deal to her and they love her dearly. We are all thankful for the time we had with her. A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from the Rosalind Community Hall with Rev. David Eriksson officiating. Interment has taken place in the Greenview Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Louise Jensen Care Centre, Alzheimer Society of Alberta, or to the Hospice Society of Camrose and District.
