Obituary of Peter Umbach

Peter was born September 29, 1949 in Camrose. He grew up and went to school here, graduating from Camrose Composite High School in 1967. He was active in Air Cadets, swimming and music. He always had a special love for playing base guitar for "Jan & The Ortegas", and a regular at the "Tomb". After high school. Peter tried numerous avenues of employment including the real estate and insurance business with his Dad Norman at Battle River Realty. He attended NAIT and hence became certified as an appraiser and Assessor. This led him to a successful 20 odd years with the Provincial Government. His job took him all over Alberta, settling for a time in Mill Woods, Spruce Grove and eventually an apartment in downtown Edmonton just off Jasper Avenue. A comfort zone where he could enjoy the nightlife and walk where he needed to go. He was married for a brief period of time to Susan but settled for the single bachelor life style instead. Peter maintained contact with his family for the most part, yet after the Government down-sized and his department was privatised he stayed pretty much to his downtown apartment. He will be remembered as a very kind and generous man. He showered his niece Kim and nephews Jeff and Scott with extravagant gifts at birthdays and Christmas. He liked food, and lots of it. We were all amazed at how he remained so slim. He liked to travel, especially to Hawaii, his favourite destination. A wayward, gentle soul he was. Peter is survived by his brother-in-law Earle, and his family Kim, Jeff and his son chase, and Scott Berry. Funeral services were held on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brian Hunter (St. Mary's Hospital Pastoral Care) officiating. Inurnment took place in the Camrose Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of your choice.
