Ragnhild "Rae" Olsen of Drumheller, formerly of Bawlf passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the age of 93 years. Rae was born May 5th, 1921 in Furness, Norway. Her father immigrated to the Bawlf area in 1928 and one year later Rae, Kore and their mother joined him. Rae went to Allied school, then to Bawlf school. She then entered the nursing program in Edmonton/Ponoka to obtain a combined RN,PN degree. She married her childhood sweetheart, Martin on August 3rd, 1943, just five days before he left for the war. Martin and Rae lived on a farm near Bawlf and raised five children. After moving to Camrose in 1959, Rae worked at Rosehaven and became the Matron until she retired in 1975. Martin and Rae spent five good years travelling around Canada and visiting family. Martin died in 1981. Rae was active in the senior's group and volunteered her time being secretary at Bawlf Lutheran Church. She learned how to use a computer and loved to challenge herself by learning new things. In 1997, she moved to Calgary to live with Peggy and her family. There she took up painting and learned to do pen and ink drawings. She learned Hardanger needlework. She was active in church and home groups and loved to bake for them. In 2008, Rae moved briefly to Three Hills but due to illness was moved to Drumheller Care Facility, where she passed away on September 24, 2014. We will remember her for her deep abiding faith in God, for her love of family and for her legacy of strength, love, faith, sacrifice as well as her curiosity of life, her humor and generosity. Sadly two of her children predeceased her; Sylvia in 2007 and Stanley in 2010; as well as two great-grandchildren; Bryce in 2005 and Nolan in 2011. Rae is survived by three children, Peggy Chabot {Rolly}, Eric Olsen {Betty} and Kathy Kerr {Daryle}; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother Kore Bohmer and niece Brenda. Blessed be her memory. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bawlf Lutheran Church (Bawlf, AB) with Rev. Bill Harder officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Bawlf Lutheran Church Cemetery.
