Obituary of Sharon Ganes
Please share a memory of Sharon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Sharon Ganes of Camrose, passed away on Wednesday, May 06, 2015 at the age of 58 years.
Sharon Janet Rothenbusch was born on September 12, 1956 in Vancouver, BC to Jack and Janet Rothenbusch. As a girl Sharon enjoyed attending Camp Luther, waterskiing, and spending time with her many friends. She was raised in a Christian home and made a choice to follow Christ at a young age. Her first church home was First Lutheran Church in Vancouver, BC where she was confirmed as a teenager.
After high school, Sharon ventured from home to attend Bible school at CLBI in Camrose. While there, Sharon met many of her life-long companions and friends, including her future husband, Trevlyn Ganes. Their blossoming love led Trev to Mission, BC, taking a job as an apprentice to Sharon's father. They found a new church home in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where they married on February 25, 1978.
Sharon's passionate heart for children led her to dream of starting a family and becoming a mother. Her dreams were realized in 1980 with the birth of her daughter, Leah Marie and later with her son, Joshua Daniel in 1982. Sharon was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She taught her children about Jesus and what it meant to follow Him by serving others.
Sharon was always a gracious hostess. She made her best efforts to ensure people were welcomed in her home and ensured they were well fed. She continued to host people in her home for special occasions or just for coffee wherever her growing family called home. She continued to connect with new friends as the family moved to Edmonton, AB. She especially loved her life and friends during her time living at the hog farm in Mission, BC. She continued to forge new friendships after settling back in Camrose.
In the mid-90s Sharon opened a day home and began taking care of children in her house. Her love for children made this the perfect job for her. Caring for kids was something Sharon was very passionate about and something that kept her going.
Throughout her life, Sharon enjoyed being creative. She was an excellent seamstress and she sewed beautiful outfits for her children. She enjoyed embroidery and crocheting as well. Sharon also enjoyed music. She faithfully attended band and choir concerts and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Sharon also enjoyed travelling and seeing new places. She was always up for a road trip and enjoyed some special trips with Trev to Mexico, Jamaica, Panama, and, most recently, Tofino.
Following her cancer diagnosis in 2006, Sharon persevered through treatment and pain and chose to live life on her own terms. She continued to take inspiration from the young children she cared for in her day home. She continued to serve and spend time with the people she loved regardless of her condition. She looked forward to sharing time with her family and friends. She remained faithful in prayer and thanksgiving to Jesus Christ her Saviour and shared her love of Christ with her grandchildren in order to pass it down to the next generation.
Sharon will be fondly remembered by her husband of 37 years, Trevlyn, her children Leah (Jeff) Young of Okotoks, Joshua (Jenny) Ganes of Vancouver, grandchildren Chloe, Lucy, Bennett, Amber, and Isla, her sister Shirley Schartner, brothers Mark (Lori) Rothenbusch and Daniel (Karen) Rothenbusch, and her parents Jack and Janet Rothenbusch as well as many friends and relatives. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Earle Schartner.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 1:30pm., from The Camrose Pentecostal Church (4920 48 St.) with Rev. Dave Hesje and Rev. Paul Knudtson officiating. Inurnment has taken place in The Mission Cemetery.
If friends so desire memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to The Cross Cancer Institute, or to The Alberta Cancer Foundation.
