Obituary of Katerina Pasula
Please share a memory of Katerina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deep sadness that the family of Kate Pasula announce her passing at St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose on June 1, 2015. Kate was born on April 6, 1918 at Glidehurst, Alberta. She was a person of courage and strength who had a deep love of family and a deep abiding faith in God.
Kate was born on April 6, 1918 at Glidehurst, Alberta. Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great, great grandmother, she answered God's call to heaven at the age of 97 at St. Mary's Hospital on June 1, 2015. On November 22, 1936 she married Anton Pasula and farmed in the Hay Lakes area until they moved to Camrose in 1975. Kate and Anton were blessed with two daughters and six sons.
Kate was an active member of St. Peter and Paul's parish at Hay Lakes and spent many hours volunteering for the church and community including the 'Circle S' club. She was also an active member of the Catholic Women's League since she joined in 1949. She was a gifted quilter who tackled many other handicrafts such as knitting, crocheting, and covering clothes hangers. Her many projects included crocheting 11 Wall Panels of the 'Lord's Prayer' for her children and as always "a few extra". She took much satisfaction in teaching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren the art of baking, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and dispensing good advice. She was well known for her perogy-making marathons. She enjoyed reading, baking, gardening, doing puzzles and travelling which took her to such places as the Holy Land, Mexico, and Alaska. Most of all she treasured the time spent with her family. She lived in her own home, until she moved to RoseAlta Lodge in 2008 . She grew to love her "home" at the Lodge and the wonderful people who befriended her. She was hospitalized on May 22, 2015 and spent 10 days in discussion with her Lord about when to take up residence in heaven. Left to cherish her memory are her seven surviving children: Mervin (Marlene), Flavian (Valerie), Reuben (Shannon), Bernie (Sharon), Genevevie (Roger), Ken (Lynn), Kevin (Cindy); her 23 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and her three great great grandchildren. Kate was predeceased by her husband Anton, her daughter Loretta, her son-in-law Bob, her parents, John and Eva Sawula, and her siblings.
The legacy she leaves is her deep and profound love for family, her enduring faith in God, and her philosophy of life "It is what it is"
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2015, from St. Francis Xavier Church in Camrose (5010 - 48A Avenue) with Rev. Larry Pederson as celebrant. Interment has taken place in The Camrose Cemetery. A Celebration of Kate's life with an eulogy and a lunch has taken place at Messiah Lutheran Church across the street from St. Francis Xavier Church.
