Obituary of John Howard

Rev. Dr. John Alan Howard of Camrose, Alberta passed away on February 10, 2016. He was born May 23, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri, the only child of John and Lucille (Hart) Howard (both deceased). He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy (Olson), daughter Anjah, son Chris (Sandra) and granddaughters Darian and Kenzie Yurkoski. John is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
John earned his BA (1970) from Anderson College; M Divinity and M Religious Education from Anderson School of Theology (1973); M of Sacred Theology from University of Winnipeg (1982); M of Education from University of Alberta (1991); and was awarded a Doctor of Divinity from Warner Southern College (2006).
John pastored the Sherwood Park Church of God, Winnipeg (1973-1983). His career then took him to Gardner Bible College (1983-2006) where he served as Professor, Academic Dean and President.
On retiring from Gardner College, John began a second career as a fundraiser for the Edgeworth Centre. Finally, John served as a Constituency Assistant for MP Kevin Sorenson. During his time in Camrose he served on the boards of the Chamber of Commerce, CDSS, the Camrose Library, Habitat for Humanity, About Time Productions, Rotary, and numerous other community associations and groups. He also had the privilege of serving two terms on City of Camrose Council. In addition, he served on many Western Canadian and International committees and boards for the Church of God.
John was dedicated to his family, his church, and his community and worked every day to create change that would strengthen those connections. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., from CityLights Church (4920 48 St) in Camrose with Rev. Brian Krushel officiating.
