Obituary of Gertrude "Gertie" Fleck
Please share a memory of Gertrude to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gertrude Caroline Fleck was born on March 3, 1936 and passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the age of 80.
She was one of seven children born to Jacob and Katharina Raab, and grew up in the Provost area. As a young woman she moved to Camrose where she trained and worked as a nurse's aide. She met Harvey Pederson and they were married in 1959. They engaged in mixed farming and in their four short years of marriage they had three children - Joan, Janice and Brent. Harvey met with a fatal hunting accident in 1963.
In 1969, Gertie married Donald Fleck and they moved the family to Calgary. A year later they welcomed another daughter, Terra, to the family. Gertie stayed at home to raise the children and later worked part-time as a waitress for fifteen years. In 1991 they retired and moved to an acreage in the Camrose area. In 1998 Donald passed away. Gertie moved into Camrose and got a little puppy she called Maggie. Gertie was so happy with this little companion and they developed a very special bond for almost fifteen years.
Gertie found happiness with her family and her Maggie. She loved music and dancing, bowling with the Ol' Crocs, and time with her family and friends. Gertie was predeceased by her husbands Harvey and Donald, her parents, and brothers Tony and Ted.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her children Joan (Jack), Janice (Jason), Brent (Emma) and Terra; her grandchildren Ryan (Jaycee), Stephanie, Paul (Erin), Shannon, Brian, Kyle and Connor; and her great-grandchildren Layne, Jude, and Chase. Gertie also leaves to mourn four sisters, including her close sister Loretta (Norbert), along with many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Blessed be her memory.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 19, 2016 from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Pederson as celebrant. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada (620 Colborne St., Suite 301 London, Ontario, Canada N6B 3R9).
