James Eugene Graftaas of Camrose, Alberta passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the age of 87 years. He was born in Shonts, Alberta on Nov. 2, 1930 and raised in Ryley. After going to Alberta College in Edmonton, he worked at General Motors, where he met his wife of 62 years Helen Coxen. He then worked for Southpark Motors on Whyte Avenue, before moving to Camrose in 1968 when he bought the Imperial Oil Bulk Station. Throughout his life he had a passion for golf and curling but when he retired, Jim and Helen spent the next 28 years wintering in Mesa, Arizona, where if he wasn't golfing he was out walking for miles.
Left to cherish his memory are son Gary (Gwen) of Sherwood Park; granddaughters Carly (Megan Karasek), and Nicole (Kriss)Wolbeck; daughter Lynn (Ken) Kuehn of Lacombe; brother Norm (Edith) Graftaas of Calgary; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
James was predeceased by his wife Helen; sister Mavis McKay; and parents Theodore and Ruth Graftaas.
No formal public service will be held.
If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta.
